No Turning Back Ministry127 First, the writer gives a stern warning: pay careful attention and do no drift away (2:1). “pay careful attention” is the command given based on the deity of jesus. this is not a clear break from chapter one, it is based on the logic of chapter 1. if jesus is truly the son of god, and god himself, then the message that he brought is worthy. Answer: the bible rule is that when the holy spirit brings us new light or conviction of sin, we must act at once—obey without delay. if we obey and walk in the light as we receive it, god will continue giving us light. if we refuse, even the light that we have will go out, and we will be left in darkness. Here’s pastor john preaching on this text in 1996, talking about gospel drift and how to avoid it. now the reason i call him a forerunner or a captain is because of the phrase in hebrews 2:10: “leading many sons to glory.”. let’s read verse 10: “for it was fitting that he [god the father], for whom and by whom all things exist, in. In spite of the greatness of god’s salvation, we all are in danger of drifting away from it. as i said, the author uses “we” to include himself as vulnerable. the immediate cause of the hebrews’ drifting was that they were facing trials and the threat of persecution. whenever we are there, we need to be on guard.
